The BrainPassion Training System

A brain-based system that teaches children to recognize emotions, communicate their needs, and build lasting regulation skills.

The 3-Step BrainPassion Training System

Train your child’s brain to recognize emotions, articulate their needs, and build lasting self-regulation skills.

1

Emotional Regulation

This step trains your child’s brain to recognize and communicate emotions.

Children can’t regulate emotions they don’t understand yet.
Using the Brain Buddy Check-In, your child learns to identify what they’re feeling and communicate what their brain needs.

When children can name their emotions, the brain begins to calm and shift out of survival mode.

This step strengthens the emotional regulation regions of the brain, including the amygdala and prefrontal cortex.

2

Daily Journaling

This step trains your child’s brain to reflect on emotions and responses.

Using the Brain Buddy Journaling Routine, your child completes simple morning and evening check-ins that help them notice patterns in their feelings, choices, and behaviors.

Daily reflection strengthens emotional awareness and the brain’s understanding and articulation centers, including Wernicke’s and Broca’s areas.

3

Anchor The Habit

This step trains your child’s brain to build healthy emotional habits.

Using the Brain Bucks reinforcement system, children practice positive behaviors consistently.

Repetition and reinforcement strengthen neural pathways so emotional regulation becomes easier and more automatic over time.

This step strengthens the habit and motivation regions of the brain, including the basal ganglia and reward system.

“Before we started using the Brain Buddy Check-In, Maddox would get overwhelmed and shut down. Now he can look at the chart, tell me how he’s feeling, and choose which Brain Buddy can help him calm his body. It’s amazing to see him learn how to communicate what his brain needs instead of melting down.”

Your Questions, Answered

  • The BrainPassion Training System is a brain-based approach that teaches children how to recognize their emotions, communicate what their brain needs, and practice habits that support healthy regulation.

  • The BrainPassion system was designed for children, but the tools can be helpful for a wide range of ages. Many families use it with children ages 4–10, but it can also support older children, teens, and even young adults who benefit from visual tools that help them recognize emotions and communicate their needs.

Because the system focuses on training the brain through repetition, language, and habit-building, it can be adapted to different developmental levels.

  • The BrainPassion Training System is currently in development and is expected to launch April 2025 .

  • Most behavior tools focus on stopping behaviors.

The BrainPassion Training System focuses on training the brain behind the behavior.

Instead of simply telling children to calm down or behave differently, this system teaches them how to:

    • recognize what they are feeling
    • communicate what their brain needs
    • practice habits that strengthen emotional regulation

Using visual tools, daily reflection, and reinforcement, children learn the skills their brain needs to move from overwhelm toward regulation.

Over time, these skills become automatic habits instead of constant reminders from adults.

  • The BrainPassion Training System was created by Makayla Wood, a brain-based learning specialist and founder of BrainPassion Kids.

Makayla developed this system through years of studying brain development, emotional regulation, and movement-based learning strategies that support how the brain actually learns.

Her work focuses on helping parents understand what the brain needs in order to learn, regulate, and grow.

The BrainPassion system combines neuroscience-informed tools, practical routines, and real-life experience working with children and families.
